City of Atlanta Transportation Infrastructure Project Samples

I spearheaded the effort to introduce legislation to ban trucks with more than six wheels from Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. and Moores Mill Road in accordance with their historic district designations and to protect existing Watershed and street infrastructure. I worked on this project from beginning to end. Meeting with residents, writing reports, plans, updates, and budgets, and sending these out to the taxpayers, stakeholders, and the media.

Retiring City Councilwoman Yolanda Adrean successfully sponsored the legislation I drafted in collaboration with APD, the law department, and GDOT on her final consent agenda. [Deputy Chief of Staff K. Taylor did not introduce it, Councilwoman Adrean did.]

These tables show how the measure, which I worked on closely with the Atlanta Police Department, the City Law Department, and the Georgia DOT affected traffic volume in the area.

GDOT’s collaboration was essential as the State of Georgia oversees interstate interchanges and Moores Mill required signage at the I-75 interchange warning truckers not to exit. The GDOT sign shop worked efficiently to produce quality signs in a timely fashion.

Here is the memo explaining the “No Trucks” legislation.

Improving the safety of Joseph E. Lowery and Moores Mill for pedestrians and motorists alike by keeping semis out of the area was crucial to protecting the existing infrastruture, as well.

Once these industrial trucks were prohibited from using the Moores Mill corridor–unless they were delivering to an address in the neighborhood–the Buckhead Council of Neighbors invited me to meet with them and felt inspired to suggest further improvements throughout the northern part of the city. Some of these have been adopted since they were proposed in 2019.

e-Scooters were not an easy adjustment for the city, as the popular last-mile vehicles tempted some users into irresponsible or even dangerous behaviors. Taking a cue from one of the first cities in America to codify e-scooter policies, I worked with ADOT to shape a brief on MDS (Mobility Data Specification) practices.
